Microparks
West Jackson
$1 million funding from the Hilton Foundation and the EPA
2C Mississippi is developing a system of micro parks in West Jackson that will transform abandoned and dilapidated properties into rain gardens and other nature-based solutions to flooding. Based on our research, we expect a cumulative effect from this development to be transformative while strengthening climate resilience through storm water retention as well as extreme heat and flood mitigation.
Additionally, the micro parks will provide a spectrum of ecosystem and human benefits including improved air quality, enhanced biodiversity, and recreational opportunities. We also expect multiple socio-economic co-benefits. The transformation of abandoned lots has the potential to enhance property values for homeowners.
